While these "dealers" are in the minority, you still need to be careful when purchasing Cisco equipment on ebay. In this article, I'll give you several tips on browsing ebay ads for home lab ideas, and a few things to look out for when purchasing equipment on ebay.
ADSENSE PLACEHOLDER 336x280

For those of you just starting your Cisco certification pursuit, the idea of purchasing a home lab kit -- a set of routers, switches, and perhaps some cables and study guides -- seems like a good idea. Instead of putting your lab together one piece at a time, these kits allow you to get a head start on your studies.

One thing to watch out for in these kits is outdated equipment, or the inclusion of outdated study guides. Often, vendors will use these kits as a way to get rid of unwanted inventory.

The Cisco 1900 family of switches falls into this category. A recent search on ebay for "ccna lab" showed seven different CCNA lab kits that contained 1900 switches. The problem here is that the current CCNA exams do not test on the 1900 switches, which are menu-driven and do not have an IOS. You'll need to be well-versed with switches that do have an IOS, such as the 2950s.
Tip! The items must have pictures unless it is a service that is sold on eBay. If there is no picture, then the items is probably not there.

The plus side here is that you will probably save money by using 1900 switches. If you're on a tight budget, having a 1900 switch is better than no switch at all. If at all possible, though, get a Cisco switch with an IOS.

The cables and transceivers included with these kits are generally exactly what you need to set up that particular kit, and this can be very helpful to those CCNA candidates who are new to the various cables needed to physically configure a home lab. Just make sure you're not buying a kit with 10 transceivers (used on AUI ports) when you've only got two routers with Ethernet ports.

Watch out for kits that include outdated study guides. I've seen four-year-old CCNA books included with some kits. If you already have your study guides, feel free to ask the vendor how much the kit costs without the books.
Tip! When a customer does not adhere to the 'Terms and Conditions' in your eBay ad, it normally escalates into an eBay email battle. No one wins on this one - it drains your emotional state and wastes time.

That leads me to the most important point. Get to know the vendor before buying anything. Visit their website and check their ebay feedback. If buying from an individual as opposed to a reseller, find out what conditions the router or switch has been kept in, and make sure to define the terms under which they will accept returns. There's nothing wrong with buying equipment from someone who's selling their CCNA/CCNP/CCIE home lab, but just make sure you ask the right questions first. Professional resellers generally have their return policy right in their ebay ad; if they don't, ask for a copy.
Tip! Investigate the eBay marketplace.

Building your own CCNA and/or CCNP home lab is a little intimidating at first, but speaking as someone who has climbed the Cisco certification ladder from the CCNA to the CCIE, I can tell you that it is the best investment you can make in your career. Use a little caution, ask the right question, and soon you'll be leaving the world of "router simulators" behind - and you'll be developing your skills as a true professional should: On real Cisco routers and switches!
Tip! Go to eBay.com and find the search box.

Chris Bryant, CCIE #12933, is the owner of The Bryant Advantage, home of free CCNA and CCNP tutorials, The Ultimate CCNA Study Package, and Ultimate CCNP Study Packages. Retailers, eBay sellers, and flea market vendors are all competing with each other and with large box stores like Wal Mart, K Mart, and Target.

Customers are highly educated and know what they should be paying for the items they need.

So in order for a retailer, flea market vendor, or eBay seller to succeed, they need to be able to compete based on price.

To have the lowest price they need to be able to buy from real wholesalers who can offer real wholesale prices.

So how does a reseller ascertain if a wholesale source is legitimate, and how does he find it in the first place?

One effective approach for finding wholesale deals is to visit wholesale specific search engines like www.wholesalecentral.com and www.wholesalequest.com

The retailer would then compile a list based on the type of merchandise he is looking to sell.

After compiling this list he would start researching prices by first visiting large box retail stores and seeing what their prices are.

For an eBay seller or a flea market vendor to compete, their prices must be at least 10% lower.

They should only deal with wholesalers who can supply them with wholesale prices which allow them to make money while pricing their merchandise under the large box retailers.
ADSENSE PLACEHOLDER 336x280

Before ordering from a wholesaler it would be recommended to conduct a search on Google to see what people are saying about the wholesaler.

If everything is positive, the wholesaler can be tested by placing a trial order. As long as you the wholesale merchandise is satisfactory the flea market vendor, or eBay seller, can then proceed and continue to do business with this wholesaler.

They can also search for wholesale suppliers by contacting industry associations. There are industry associations that represent every market segment that exists.

These associations are set up to bring more business to their members. They are waiting for businesses to contact them so that they can refer customers to their members.

Many of these industry groups have ready made directories that give you a complete listing of all their members.

These directories are a gold mine for wholesale businesses because they represent access to manufacturers, wholesalers, and distributors, who themselves have thousands of products for sale.

The top sellers in the retail, flea market, and eBay business even have staff who are constantly searching for new products to introduce to the stores, flea markets, and eBay sellers that they sell to.

Donny Lowy is the CEO of http://www.closeoutexplosion.com, a wholesale and closeout business that supplies dollar stores, flea market vendors, and eBay sellers with wholesale and closeout products.

Wholesale eBay Products for eBay Sellers: Find the Best Wholesale Hip Hop Brands for eBay

Wholesale eBay products for eBay sellers: Find the best wholesale hip hop brands for eBay

Wholesale eBay products are a great way to make inroads on eBay. Lying to customers, selling inferior merchandise, and not offering refunds, left a firestorm of irate customers in their wake. Without fail, all of this "ill will" led most businesses to bankruptcy, and in some cases, Federal Prison.

I realize that not everyone engages in "business criminality" that rises to the level of fraud and incarceration. Most people try to be good stewards, and approach their enterprise in an honest and forthright manner. For those of you who own thriving business concerns you already know that in most cases the customer is always right. You make sure that you communicate effectively, refund monies if the buyer is truly unhappy, and try to meet the needs of the people who buy your goods or services.

However, there are more than a handful of Ebay sellers that are of the mind that customer service and effective communication is not something that they need not participate in. Take the case of a woman named Barbara, (Nickname: BobAnn) who recently posted her disappointment on the Ryze Business Network:

Barbara Cerda wrote: Greetings Everyone,

"When will sellers on Ebay understand that customer service is key? And when will Ebay sellers learn using customer friendly approaches can only make their business grow?" Again today I've bought from a less than friendly seller.

Thought I was placing a bid and instead bought the item at the buy now price. Of course the seller refused to allow the retraction, nor was I allowed to place a bid. I always pay for my winning bids immediately upon email confirmation.

ADSENSE PLACEHOLDER 336x280

And did so in this case. But it would have been customer friendlier for this seller to accept my retraction to be replaced with a bid. He would have gotten repeat business from me and my friends. His "Buy Now" price is 30% over the retail price for this item. Lesson learned by me again - that there are way too many sellers on Ebay out to grab a buck and the hell with fair practice.
Tip! List it on eBay under multiple ads with different titles for $.99 or so.

Lesson learned yet again."

BobAnn

End quote…

The operative phrase here is "repeat business from me and my friends". There is no better endorsement of your product or service than word of mouth advertising. Lack of flexibility on the part of the seller, not only cost them one customer, but also destroyed the possibility for future business. Good news travels fast, but bad news travels faster!

As an auction seller, (Ebay auction ID: LevelBest77) I would have accommodated her request right away. And while I have never had anyone use "Buy It Now" by accident, I have had several people over the years ask me to retract bids. The number of people who have made that request can be counted on one hand! Some, did not even understand the process, (bid retracting) and I was more than willing to guide them through it.

People make honest mistakes, and you should never "abuse" a buyer for doing so. If you plan to get into Ebay auction selling for the long haul, always practice good will toward your customers. Unless someone is totally unreasonable, and you have done everything in your power to accommodate their request, never deny people the ability to change their mind, return an item, or retract a bid! Developing good will also requires that you anticipate customer needs…..
Tip! Create Your About Me Page – An “About Me” age is a Free Web page eBay gives you to promote yourself and your auctions. Include your shipping information, contact information, plus, you can also add links to your auctions and you can list your positive feedback.

For instance, I had a few overseas customers bid on a wireless router. This particular item needed to be powered with a Universal Adapter, since voltage requirements in France and Australia are obviously different from those here in the United States.

I made this abundantly clear to both bidders before they sent me any payment. The purchase of such an adapter, not to mention the shipping price, would have doubled the US retail cost. I told them that they could probably get the product cheaper at their local electronics stores. Without hesitation, I let them out of their obligation to pay for the item. I then contacted the next highest bidder and offered that person the chance to make the purchase.
Tip! If you are buying something expensive, then get the contact information of the seller at http://search.ebay.

Both bidders thanked me for my honesty. They had forgotten about the electrical differences. I could have ignored that little detail, and sold them the item anyway. I just had to put myself in their situation. Think of how frustrated they would have been if I did not reveal that information. Buyer's remorse would have set in quickly, once they realized that they could have purchased the same item for a lot less in their native countries.
Tip! The items you will be putting on eBay the following week.

While the benefits of these actions may not have an immediate effect, you can be sure that should I ever have another "item of interest!" these two gentlemen would not hesitate to purchase from me. They can count on me to accommodate their needs, instead of catering to my wants. Creating this type of good will instills trust, and the knowledge that you have the customers best interest in mind.

Tip! A blurred or ugly looking image. Be sure your eBay auction has a clear professional looking image.

"Me thinketh thou doth protest too much!

Do you accentuate the positive? Or, do you run on negativity? Negative Ebay feedback is a tool that everyone should use with restraint, or not at all. As a rule, I never leave negative feedback. Unless someone has blatantly lied about your product, or attacked you personally without merit, then I would not leave any feedback in the "minus" side of the isle!

"Flame" wars are not pretty. I have seen a lot of unnecessary back and forth "banter" that could have been avoided, if they (the seller) just resisted the urge to make their "two cents" known. Sometimes it gives customers the impression that you are more concerned about arguing, then conducting your business.

I have also witnessed seller feedback that has included some pretty foul language. Engaging in this type of verbal sparring is not much of a confidence builder either. It is more telling of what you are, then about revealing the sins of your customers. Don't go out of your way to register a negative response if you can help it. Heed the sage advice that our Mother's use to tell us: "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all!"

"What we have here is a failure to communicate!"

Communication with your customers should not amount to the sound one hand clapping! Bottom line, if someone e-mails you with a question--answer it! Here is an example of the type of feedback I obtained by doing just that……

Tip! And, no surprise, Barbie is the best-selling doll on eBay. Since Mattel has recently announced that Ken and Barbie will no longer be an 'item', dolls from the 'good old days' when the name 'Barbie' was rarely heard without 'Ken', will inevitably become more valuable.

"He was very Helpful and cooperative in answering questions. Follow-up: Will DEFINITELY use his services anytime he has items of interest! Great Seller!"

The gentlemen who left this positive review, wanted to know about some of the particulars of a "Mickey Mouse" clock I had up for auction. His wife is a collector of all things Disney, and thought it would be a nice surprise for her birthday. The clock, to say the least, was in sad shape. It was incapable of keeping time, and the only part of it in working order was the second hand. I thought for sure that he would be disappointed with the item despite full disclosure of all of it's imperfections.

To my surprise, not only did I receive positive feedback, but he also told me that his wife absolutely loved it! In this instance, one man's junk, truly, is another man's treasure! I never thought this item was worthy of any praise! The time it took to answer his questions—all of five minutes!
Tip! If you want a steady income on Ebay you need to find suppliers. The best way to do this is to determine what type of product you want to sell, and then start researching what that item is selling for on auction sites.

I know that some of you will say that I am not being realistic. You just can't answer e-mails all day; "I have a business to run!," you might proclaim. If you plan on making a living on Ebay, then you better think about hiring someone to help you answer your daily inquires if it is just too overwhelming. If you specialize in a particular product, set up a Frequently Asked Questions page to any Auto-Responder.

If you use Ebay on an infrequent basis, and have less than thirty listings a month, then you really don't have any excuse not to provide great customer service and e-mail communication. You shouldn't be inundated with questions regarding that many items, unless the product you are selling is technical in nature.

If you ignore your customers, they will go away. Good customer service should be woven into the fabric of every good business. I cannot overemphasis the importance of this issue. I continue to be perplexed by the fact that it is last on the list of business priorities for some Ebay sellers!

Will good customer service and communication alone make you rich on Ebay? That would be a resounding "no". You will have to understand your market, and provide products that the Ebay community will bid on consistently. There will be "bidders & buyers" out there that will make mistakes and commit some auction sins! Forgive all Ebay sins and you will be rewarded with happy, repeat customers!

Tip! Do a search for the sellers past items on eBay. Check to see if the seller has sold similar items in the past.

Robert C. Potter is the author of "The Ultimate Guide To Products For Resale." Wholesale trends are the changes in demand for products being sold in the marketplace.
ADSENSE PLACEHOLDER 336x280

These trends also include the introduction and demand for new wholesale products into the marketplace.

eBay sellers of all types need to monitor these changing wholesale trends. By seeing what is becoming popular and what is losing in popularity, eBay sellers will be able to know what products they should be buying and selling.
Tip! Determine the direction of his eBay business.

Here are three great methods for monitoring wholesale trends. Remember that you want to be able to anticipate product demand before your fellow eBay sellers do. This is especially important if you want to be selling on eBay popular products before other eBay sellers start catching on.

Wholesale Trend Monitoring Tip #1

Movies. When a new movie is released you can expect a great deal of marketing to be involved. By the time the movie hits the screens you can expect thousands of enthusiastic fans to be familiar with the movie. You can expect that products related to the movie will be strong sellers on eBay.
Tip! List your e-report on eBay. And keep re-listing it as long as it is selling.

Wholesale Trend Monitoring Tip #2

Magazines. Popular culture magazines are the first ones to showcase a new product hitting the marketplace. Often they will cover the development of a product that they predict will be very popular. And sometimes the magazines themselves create demand for a product by publishing a glowing review of the product.

Wholesale Trend Monitoring Tip #3

Top online searches. There are many free web based services that will show you what the current top searches are. You can use these services to determine what it is that people are searching for. If you see a surge in the number of searches for a certain actor, then you should start selling related merchandise on eBay.
Tip! Raffles and prizes are 100% prohibited. According to eBay, such promotions are highly regulated and may be unlawful in many states.

Donny Lowy runs http://www.closeoutexplosion.com an online wholesale and closeout business that supplies eBay sellers, retailers, and flea market vendors.

Sell Your Product @ A Higher Price - A New Secret @ eBay

It's sometimes bewildering to discover that some people bid higher that what a product would be sold out of eBay. This is an opportunity which every seller on eBay might not want to miss. And this account for the reason, among others, why you should be considering selling your stuff on eBay now! This may not apply to all products and merchants, but it does happen many a time.

Well there are many reasons which may account for this. But the most prominent one should be ignorance on the part of the bidder/buyer. Some have opined that this ignorance results from the fact that some bidder believes that they could not see such items elsewhere else.
ADSENSE PLACEHOLDER 336x280

Another reason why this happens sometimes is the enthusiasm and thrill of bidding. Some bidders are so carried away with the bidding gusto to realise that what they are bidding for could be bought cheaper else where.

In addition, failure to make necessary plan and budget. Before bidding, some don't care to know the retail price of the item and then place a limit on their bidding. Such people would always bid above the retail price to the advantage of the seller.
Tip! Incomplete and unclear product description. Be sure to give a detailed and precise description for your eBay auction item.

We can not rule out the fact that some items being sold on eBay are uncommon. You may not find elsewhere. Thus, if you have an article which is not in common place, you stand the chance of making real money from it on eBay. If you really need some resources that will aid you cash in on this goldmine visit here!

It's also possible for some bidders to offer outrageous price because of their peculiar circumstances. For instance, the disabled may offer higher than necessary price to get an item to avoid the hassle of getting it elsewhere. Similarly, some don't have much time for shopping; they prefer doing it at home.
Tip! People that buy on ebay are looking for a bargain, the trouble is they think that Ebay is the best place to look.

In the past, it might be that some people might not have the credit card required to buy on websites. They would pay extra to be able to use a checking account through PayPal. I would think this wouldn't be a problem these days (no credit card), if you have a checking account, because you usually get a debit card with your account, which PayPal treats as a credit card. However, for those who have bad credits, it might be difficult to obtain a debit ATM.

Whichever reasons prompt bidders to pay more money for an item than necessary makes it imperative for you to do consider moving your business venture to eBay today! Trying to build a trusting relationship with someone you've never even talked to is extremely difficult, and this is what you will have to do when selling on eBay. I cover many ways to develop trust throughout my eBay selling book, but I will hit on a few simple ways to quickly become a credible source of information in this article. The first is as easy as choosing an appropriate eBay User ID. If you are selling wedding accessories, your eBay User ID should not be "crazyjoe_3568". This is not the type of place most people would want to shop at for their wedding. Now if your eBay User ID is "YourDay" or "WeddingAccessories", people are much more likely to trust your products and service over crazyjoe_3568. If people are more likely to trust you, they will be more willing to bid higher for your items.
ADSENSE PLACEHOLDER 336x280

The lesson here is that the first impression is the most important and to be honest in all your business ventures. If you are comfortable with yourself and the business you operate, then knowing that you provide a high level of service and professionalism will lead others to believe in you also. You might get banged around a little at times, but hold your head high and things will work out for the better. And don't forget, crazyjoe_3568 will have a hard time selling much of anything unless it's CRAZY!

Doug Luthringer is a certified eBay education specialist who has taught more than 150 students The Basics of eBay Selling course and The Advanced eBay Selling Techniques course. He has been selling on eBay for nearly six years and has completed over 1800 eBay transactions and has over 1150 unique positive comments with no negative feedback. Doug has also been invited to be a guest speaker to talk about how to sell on eBay and the use of Google AdWords to small and medium size business, as well as university students. Perhaps this avalanche of information is giving you an acute migraine.

Not to fret! I've been there and done that.

As a prudent business-savvy entrepreneur, one should always enter any business venture with both eyes wide open. But where does one start?

Once upon a time, when I was searching for the quickest and easiest way to earn an honest income, I learned a few lessons from U.H.K. - the University of Hard Knocks. Murphy's Law was working overtime and I made just about every mistake imaginable; I've had cars repossessed, wages garnished, eviction notices, etc. But hopefully now I am better qualified to offer some helpful tips that will prevent you from repeating my misfortunes. Through trial and error, I have now come to the conclusion that one of the best, if not the best, business opportunities right now today is eBay. It's easy, there's little risk or investment, and it can be highly-profitable for those who know what they are doing.
ADSENSE PLACEHOLDER 336x280

WHY E-BAY IS A SMART CHOICE FOR ENTREPRENEURS

PC Magazine says, "eBay [is the] #1 rated work at home business opportunity!" Now that's a bold endorsement from such a prestigious magazine.

While countless other e-commerce businesses have gone belly-up, eBay has weathered many economic storms. It is now thriving, becoming a Rock-of-Gibraltar in the e-commerce marketplace. I know firsthand what it is like to invest one's hard-earned time and money into a business venture, only to see that company go out of business before I realizing any profit. It's not a pretty picture. However, that said,if the current trend continues, it is highly improbable that this scenerio will ever occur at eBay.

I'm told over 50 million people trade on eBay. Many have already become wealthy by simply using smart trading techniques on the World's Biggest Garage sale. One man's junk truly is another man's treasure.
Tip! Host your own pictures. By hosting your own pictures, you will save money, and, more importantly, be able to use as many pictures as you need to adequately show eBay bidders your item.

However, since eBay is an auction, unlike garage sales, eBay allows potential buyers all over the world to bid, thereby bringing you maximum profits.

Of course, there is much more to it than buying low and selling high. If that were the case, everybody would be getting rich on eBay. Most people flounder because they make many common mistakes. But there is some good news! Anyone can avoid these pitfalls by simply learning what these common mistakes are and avoiding them. The secret is to learn what the pros are doing and then duplicate their success.

In eBay lingo, the top moneymakers are known as "Power Sellers". Here are a few of the powerful moneymaking strategies used by these Power Sellers:
Tip! Ninety-five percent of the time when I relisted that same item for sale on eBay, it sold for at least what the previous buyer had paid.

·Power Sellers choose the best time of the week to generate the strongest sales.

·Power Sellers pick the most profitable products to sell.
Tip! Investigate the eBay marketplace.

·Power Sellers create enticing ad copy that will attract the most bidders and therefore bring them the biggest profits.

·Power Sellers know how to deal with irate customers.

·Power Sellers increase their profits with better photos.

These are just a few of the many things that every money-savvy eBay entrepreneur needs to learn. I encourage you to turn eBay into your own unlimited cash cow. But do yourself a favor; before you begin, acquire as much comprehensive information as you possibly can. This site blew up in the late 1990s as millions of people found how easy it was to sell things and people found out how fun it was to find unique items on eBay. Regardless of what you needed or just wanted it could be found on eBay, and for anything you had there was a person willing to buy it. eBay quickly became the top player and representation of what could be possible on the Internet. When you consider the money going in and out of eBay it's easy to see why it didn't take much time for a few smart folks wanting financial liberty to find out how they could profit with the help of eBay. All kinds of folks from moms to businessmen were making businesses on the eBay website.
ADSENSE PLACEHOLDER 336x280

Recently a new way to make money on eBay has arrived selling items for others. These new eBay franchises are just stores that take items for customers, take the pictures and write the text and then the franchise gets some of the money from the sale or a fee. Some people believe that the eBay consignment business opportunities and franchises are one of the best ideas to hit the franchise market in a while.
Tip! The items you will be putting on eBay the following week.

There are several types of entrepreneurs that might have the right mix of attitude and desire to own an eBay consignment business. The first type of person that has worked with eBay in the past and knows a little bit about the buying and selling process and a person that has seen the power of eBay. The next type of person is one that has worked in retail. A person that has worked in a shipping business before or a regular retail outlet will find out early if buying an eBay business is what they want.

So, how Does an EBay consignment Franchise Work?

eBay drop off stores really just the contact between the one that wants to sell an item and the person that wants to buy it. Instead of the seller having to take pictures of their item, write a description of the item, and then where to list the item the eBay consignment franchise does it all. eBay drop off stores not only profit from regular eBay users, that don't care to deal directly with the website, but they also get business from patrons that are not Internet savvy. By starting an eBay business you expand the marketplace to a larger area and provide a service to your community that benfits everyone.
Tip! Bidders will use eBay search to find auctions matching their requirements. As you may know, by default eBay's search facility only checks auction titles for the presence of the keywords input by the searcher.

How come a Franchising Opportunity Rather than Starting up from Scratch?

Opening an eBay consignment business doesn't appear to be all that daunting when first considered. All you do is take items from customers, then you simply log onto eBay and create the listing, and then ship it to the person that wins the auction. To be honest, it's not actually that simple. There exists a lot more to it than than most know. First of all, you will have to have a store with an efficient system to sell from. Then you need an effective marketing campaign to bring in the money needed to be successful. And of course you must grasp what techniques for listing on the eBay website are best. The other is someone- you need to know seems to never really end, and unless you are good at lots of things you won't the knowledge necessary to operated a profitable eBay franchise.
Tip! When a customer does not adhere to the 'Terms and Conditions' in your eBay ad, it normally escalates into an eBay email battle. No one wins on this one - it drains your emotional state and wastes time.

When it comes time to make the initial investment it's good to remember that there are many good reasons for owning your own franchise over starting a new business on your own. Most of the eBay franchises will have ready made packages. All they have to do is pull a truck to you and set up everything. soon all you need is in place and you have a professional and efficient storefront. With a well known franchise you get instant credibility based on the reputation of the franchise. With this valuable name recognition you get already made customers, and this speeds up the time needed to get clients.
Tip! Review eBay product sales.

How to Own an eBay Franchise:

An excellent source to use to look for an eBay drop off store franchise opportunity is on the web. The Internet is the best facts source that has ever existed. The downside to searching on the net is that sometimes the information is incorrect. To be sure that you get the best franchise facts stick to one top franchise directories. Once you have a few eBay consignment franchises that seem solid and dependable study everything about each one. One of the biggest mistakes franchisees make is not getting enough info on the franchise. Chat with the franchise and to current and past franchisees. Read over all of the financial books as well. You can't study too hard when it comes to something this big.

Buying a business can be scary, but starting your own business is a real path to financial freedom in America. The Internet has presented many new opportunities and an eBay franchise is only the best one in a while. Do your research and learn everything about the franchise company you decide upon, and keep in mind the sole thing keeping you from successful business ownership is you.
Tip! Gift Cards: If you frequently shop at a certain store, it pays (literally) to check out the gift certificates category on eBay. People resell gift cards they aren't interested in using, and you can often get a good discount.

Franchise Opportunities provides you with the Web's largest directory of available franchise and business opportunities. Don't forget to visit our eBay franchise page.

A Guide to Buying a Website Business on Ebay

So you've seen all of those appealing listings on eBay for websites that promise a living from doing almost nothing. Now I've seen countless people buy these things and I dont know why. In real life, if a person came up to you and promised everything like that you would naturally figure it to be a scam and not pay attention to it. So why don't people do the same on ebay? It's because these auctioners are crafty, they often times provide you with tables of potential sales and usually state things like "If you just make 5 sales a day, you'll earn $3900 a month!". This is what ropes most people in (and by most I mean inexperienced or first timers). Little do they know that getting 5 sales a day is a feat.

Unestablished Sites

Go ahead, go on ebay and search "website business", infact heres a link to the search if your too lazy:

Website business search on ebay. Now if you check out most auctions on that search I just linked to, you'll see that most do exactly the things I said, they'll include a "potential" profit table and not much else other than lines and lines of bragging about how their market is huge etc.(which is actually a bad thing, which I'll explain later).
ADSENSE PLACEHOLDER 336x280

Very few of those auctions will say how many visitors they currently get, or more importantly they wont state their conversion ratio. Sites that aren't currently getting any visitors or sales are called "unestablished" meaning that they aren't marketed at all, which means once your suckered into buying one of these sites, the sole burden of marketing (believe me, its a heavy one) will rest on your shoulders.

Before I go on, I must say one thing, most auctions now include the word "established" in their title just to attract people, often times this is not the case. These sites are NOT established, what they mean when they say "established" is that the site is merely set up, which doesn't really mean anything.

Cookie Cutters

Most "unestablished" sites I mentioned before that you will see on ebay are most likely "cookie cutters". What are cookie cutter websites? They are sites merely "generated" by someone slapping a different domain name on a template. That means they'll take a graphic image, stuff it with the same content and just slap on a different name for example one being www.cookiecutter.com which looks exactly the same as another one the seller is auctioning off like www.cutcookie.com. Buying a cookie cutter site is a sureshot way of failing in the online business world (and its what most new people do).
Tip! Image Manipulation & Optimizing I use Paint Shop Pro for picture manipulation and for optimizing. This is important for auction pictures, as eBay have a size limit of 50KB on any pictures which you want to upload to their Picture Service.

Diluted Markets

One thing I mentioned before was sites bragging how huge their market is and how everyone else is doing what their website is doing. Now, experienced webmasters know that this means stay away, why? Because if a thousand other people are selling what you are selling, then why would they even care what you sell? Markets with too many sellers selling the same thing wont turn you a big profit.

As counterintuitve as it sounds, the more specific your service or product is, the better. Sites that are unique or sell a unique product are called niche sites. A highly targeted niche product will do two things, one, it will ensure that the people who are likely to buy your product will only have you to turn to and two, you will be ranked much higher in the search engine because you'll be the only one or one of the few to sell what you're selling.
Tip! Ninety-five percent of the time when I relisted that same item for sale on eBay, it sold for at least what the previous buyer had paid.

What you ARE looking for

So you know what to avoid when you look towards eBay to buy your own web business. Well what do you want an auction to have? The answer is basically the opposite of what I've said so far, you want auctions that state upfront the number of visitors to their site in the current month or last month etc. You want a auction where the seller states the conversion ratio of the website (how many people actually bought the product out of the people who visited) and also you want the seller to be open about how much money the site makes (not "can" make). Also be sure that the site is not a cookie cutter and is actually unique in its design. Follow these guidelines and chances are you'll certainly end up with a good profit turning website on your hands.
Tip! The items you will be putting on eBay the following week.

Pradip Patil is just a guy with his own page and some advice to give (good advice). I have just been motivated by working on interesting technology."

Growing Up

Omidyar was born in Paris in 1967. He moved to Baltimore when his father began his term of residence at Johns Hopkins. Omidyar became captivated by computers while at high school and skipped his gym classes in order to use it. Noticing the boy's keen interest, the principle gave him the job of creating a program that would produce catalog cards for the library. He was paid $6 an hour.

At Tufts University, Omidyar worked on a program to assist Macintosh programmers with computer memory problems. His request that users of this shareware file pay on the honour system did not bring many replies; the cheques that should have been going to fund his years as a computer science undergraduate went solely to paying for the post office box.

In 1991, Omidyar went to work with three friends to create pen-computing programs. Though Pen computing was a dismal failure, the e-commerce site (eShop) on the Web site that Omidyar introduced and operated enticed Microsoft to buy the company.
ADSENSE PLACEHOLDER 336x280

Starting The Business

Omidyar went to work with General Magic, a software company, in 1994 and made extra money designing Web pages on the side. The girl he was dating at the time, Pamela Wesley, who would later become his wife, collected Pez dispensers and often complained how difficult it was to meet others passionate about her hobby on the internet. Thoughtfully, Omidyar appended a small online auction to his personal website so Pamela would make contacts with other collectors as well as buy and sell.

eBay (electronic Bay, as in the San Francisco Bay area), as it was when it first appeared in 1995, operated merely as a forum for people to sell and bid on various items. Omidyar did not back goods, mediate conflicts, or get involved if there were accusations of dishonesty or abuse of the system. Almost immediately, collectors of Barbie dolls, Beanie babies and the like flocked to eBay.

Three months after its launch, Omidyar had to ask his friend Jeff Skoll, also a programmer, for help. In order to cover the new costs involved with the growth of the business, Omidyar began charging small change to list an item on the site and took a small commission if the item was bought.
Tip! Gift Cards: If you frequently shop at a certain store, it pays (literally) to check out the gift certificates category on eBay. People resell gift cards they aren't interested in using, and you can often get a good discount.

Building An Empire

Omidyar was surpised by his continued success and had to hire someone to open the large number of cheques that were being sent in. He was also surprised that people were not simply using the site to buy and sell, but also as a meeting place where relationships were made over common interests.
Tip! Cigarettes, cigars, smokeless tobacco or coupons for such items are not permitted on eBay.com.

After qutting his day job, Omidyar worked along with Skoll to improve eBay. They felt that if a sturdy framework was in place, business would generate by itself. After just under two years of operation, eBay was one of the most popular internet sites, 150 users bidding on 794,000 items daily. And the company was now doubling every three months.

At such a rate of growth, Omidyar and Skoll sought venture capital assistance and a management team that would further move the company forward. Benchmark Capital gave the partners a $4.5 million cheque for 22% of the company. Benchmark also found a CEO for eBay, Margaret Whitham, an executive from Hasbro, and with her leadership, the business became a slick corporate entity. With a new look, better publicity, and greater organization, eBay went public on September 24, 1998. Within four months of trading, the stock, which started at $18 per share, was worth $300. Omidyar became a billionaire.
Tip! Makeup: There are certain shades and certain brands of makeup I know I will always use. It's easy to search for these on eBay and buy them in bulk or at a discount.

Now selling far more than just Pez dispensers, eBay has completely changed e-commerce. Despite increasing competition, eBay continues to grow. Omidyar recognized and seized the opportunity that essentially fell into his lap and revolutionized internet use.
Tip! Sometimes insurance can be expensive, or you don't have room to store your bike anymore. If you are buying, new most dealers will probably take your current bike as a trade-in. There are several different services around to help you determine what your bike is worth so make sure that you have checked this out before you start negotiating a price.

One of the best ways is to sell your motorcycle is on eBay. It is becoming immensely popular, and they offer a great service by allowing you to auction off your bike. A good clear picture is necessary, and make sure that you look at comparable bikes that have been bought and sold to get ideas. Of course remember to let all of your friends know as well that you are selling your bike, as someone may take an interest and purchase it from you.

Another great way to sell your motorbike, especially if you belong a motorcycle club is to make an announcement that it is for sale. Remember to get listed in the club newsletter and spread the word around. You may get a fast sale, since everyone will know you from the club. Some dealers will also take your bike on consignment and charge a small commission to sell it on your behalf. They will also make it known to others that they have your bike for sale. Remember to write a good newspaper ad that will stand out, and there are also many great web sites that offer want ads for motorcycles. You may want to list your motorcycle for sale on various forums throughout the Internet, too.
ADSENSE PLACEHOLDER 336x280

By Terry Price - Remember to visit http://www.motorcycle-atv-exhaust.com/cobra-exhaust.html for other fun articles and information on atv's, motorcycle exhaust and other performance enhancement products. Virtually every programme is imported or adapted from the UK so there are variants, as I intimated earlier, of Bargain Hunt, Flog It, Cash in the Attic and, of course, The Antiques Roadshow. There are many others from the same stable, some of which may yet sink mid Atlantic, so don't be surprised to see offerings such as Car Boot Challenge, Car Booty, Sun, Sea and Bargain Spotting and, in what must be a classic case of product placement, The 20th Century Antiques Roadshow. Given that Americans have so little history in the traditional sense, the latter seems tailor made for them. Time will tell. Much the most intriguing development in recent times, however, has been the decoration of a four storey Manhattan townhouse with items acquired on the eBay site. Eight leading designers were given two months to furnish the property and web surfers were invited to follow their progress on eBay. This concept cleverly combined an appreciation of antiques in the context of home design and demonstrates a grasp of a changing market. People evidently enjoy this subject but TV executives are generally formulaic and unimaginative in their approach. The eBay initiative should act as a wake up call.
ADSENSE PLACEHOLDER 336x280

The truth of the matter is that the existing crop of TV antique shows are all much of a muchness. They all have the potential to surprise and even amaze us but, despite the unflagging efforts of David Dickinson et al, they lack innovation. I note that one of the presenters for Cash in the Attic is Jennie Bond, formerly BBC Royal Correspondent. How about zipping around Buck House or Windsor Castle to look at a few heirlooms? Cash in the Attic? Cash in every Room would be more appropriate. Heaven knows what the intrepid might find stashed under the floorboards or bricked up inside that false wall. Looted art? Asylum seekers? Who knows what lies beyond the green door? It's all a bit too predictable for me, as it stands. It's contrived and controlled and faintly twee but the most damning criticism is that the genre is so disengaged from the needs and expectations of the populace as a whole.

Continuing the series of articles by Howard Lewis. (Read earlier parts in the www.invaluable.com blog).
Tip! Listing a catalog of items that a seller offers for sale is forbidden. The only catalogs legally sold on eBay are collectible kinds, such as an old Sears Roebuck or Montgomery Wards catalog that is memorabilia and doesn't offer current merchandise for sale.

Howard Lewis, Chairman, Invaluable group of companies.

http://www.invaluable.com

Only Invaluable gives you unrivalled access to pre-sale and post-sale information for auction houses and salerooms across the globe.

Find art, antiques and collectables. Their top 25 affiliates averaged over $100,000 per month each and the top 100 affiliates earn almost $25,000 each per month."

With this sort of statistics around, is it any surprise that thousands of entrepreneurs especially those Home Based Business entrepreneurs with very small marketing budgets are jumping on to the Affiliate Marketing band-wagon!

Given below are some of the Popular reasons for this desire and urge to do Affiliate Marketing:

1. Cost Factor:
Most Entrepreneurs refrain from starting a brick and mortar business or for that matter a Home Based Business (non internet) because of the investment required. In Affiliate Marketing the set-up cost is negligible with most programs being free to join and the merchant even providing you with the tools, tips and websites.

2. Pick and Choose Products:
With dozens of Affiliate Program providers and thousands of merchants having their own affiliate programs, there are several thousands of products to choose from. You name it they have it! In fact there are even Fortune 500 companies to choose from. The idea is to pick and choose your niche products and promote them.

3. No need for an Inventory.
The hassle of purchasing, stocking of items and storing of finished items (in a production unit) and dispatching them are not there. There is no need to maintain an inventory. It is all handled by the merchant.

4. No need for Employees.
In any business the wages of the employees is one of the major expenditures to contend with. Here the problem does not arise since the marketer himself will operate his home business and probably get the assistance of a family member to help him.

5. Necessity for Customer Service does not arise.
Customer service plays a major role in the success or failure of a business. The advantage here is that there is no direct dealing with the customers. The website will automatically direct the customers to the merchants.

6. Two Tier Affiliate Marketing:
An attractive feature of certain affiliate programs is that they have a Two tier system, whereby affiliates can sign up as sub-affiliates below them. When the sub-affiliate earns a commission, the affiliate above him too earns a commission.

7. Income without a limit.
In a paid job the salary structure has a vice-like grip over your monthly income. Here the possibilities are limitless. Though it is not every marketer who earns a big income, the fact remains that avenues are all there for the enterprising marketer to make it to the big time.

8. Global Market Place.
You no longer need to restrict your market to your home town or country. With your well chosen niche product you can sit in the comfort of your home and target the Global Market.

9. Low Risk Factor.
The risk factor in Affiliate Marketing is so small that it has become one of the major attractions for many Home Based Business entrepreneurs especially for those with low marketing budgets.

10. Business works Right Round the Clock.
One major asset of Internet marketing is that your Website, or in other words, your Home Based Business never sleeps. It works right round the clock (24/7) making money from home for you.

Having indicated the above reasons for the popularity of Affiliate Marketing, it has to be mentioned that statistics indicate that only 5% of the marketers do make big money. It is presumed that there are of course several thousands of marketers who make some money, thus giving them an additional income.

As long as the top marketers in the 5% slab, continue to make their millions and the latter continue to make reasonable amounts of money and have the urge to emulate the top marketers, Affiliate Marketing will continue to draw the attention and be popular with Home Based Business Entrepreneurs.

About the author:
Copyright © 2005 Kanaga Siva

Kanaga Siva has been a Marketing Manager and Business Manager and has a wealth of experience in Marketing. EVEN Ebay has an affiliate program!

The truth is its hard generating traffic on your own and if you want massive amounts of traffic this is the best way I know of. The great thing about creating your own affiliate program is you don’t have to pay a cent until one of your affiliates makes a sale.

However in order to get affiliates to want to promote your product, you do need to make it enticing for them. If you’re selling a digital product where you make basically 100% of the profits then your affiliates will be expecting a decent cut of the profits. After all, advertising can be quite expensive. It needs to be worth “their” while.

If your digital product sells for $97 ++ and you offer a 50% commission… your not going to have any troubles getting affiliates to sign on and promote your product (unless of course your salescopy isn’t up to scratch or your product has a bad reputation, I’ve seen that happen before).

Writing up your affiliate page and making it easier for your affiliates to promote your product will be of great benefit to you as well. After all, writing up email promotions, ezines, banners etc… is going to be a whole lot easier for you then what it will be for your affiliate because NO-ONE knows YOUR products as well as you do!

So how can you get an affiliate program?

Well there are quite a few options… Probably the most popular affiliate program would be ClickBank’s. Once you make your first sale (and they also give you the option of making the sale yourself) then they will index your site in their affiliate programs to promote. This gives you a large audience to find eager and waiting affiliates.

You can also get other affiliate programs that give you greater control and tracking, just do a search in Google for “Affiliate Software”

© Joanne King - http://www.joesy.com

About the author:
Get your Free book on “Affiliate Marketing – Quick Start Guide” by visiting http://www.joesy.com.

You are welcome to reprint this article on your website or send to your mailing list however it may not be edited and the link in this bio must stay active.
